Pros & Cons: Cincinnati Comic Expo 2022

Last month I had the pleasure of attending my very first comic convention out in Cincinnati, Ohio and one that happens to be the largest comic convention in the city. I’ve always wanted to go to conventions in Ohio and after checking out Horrorhound Weekend earlier in September I was glad to be attending yet another convention in Ohio a few weeks later.

Cincinnation Comic Expo is an insanely large convention that takes place inside the Duke Energy Convention Center in the heart of downtown Cincinnati. The first thing I really liked was the entryway into the convention with various comic books covers lining the sides of the entrance to get inside the convention itself by way of the vendor hall. This particular comic convention is the biggest one that I’ve had the pleasure of attending with various comic vendors, collectors, cosplay shops and so much more that you shouldn’t have a hard time finding something to tickle your fancy. My biggest complaint about this convention is that nothing was really grouped up but rather everything was mixed up. Most conventions I’ve attended in the past have things pretty well categorized together such as an artist alley and etc. but … Read More

Pros & Cons: Horrorhound Weekend Cincinnati 2022

Horror is one of my absolute favorite genres of movies and it wasn’t until a few years ago when I attended my very first ever Horror convention that I realized just how much I would enjoy attending them. Horrohound was one of my very first experiences at these type of cons and its one of, if not the best, Horror convention in the United States.

Horrhound Weekend took place in Cincinnati, Ohio and this actually ended up being my very first convention that I ever attended in the state. It’s been since 2018 since I’ve attended when Horrorhound was in Indianapolis and it felt great being back as this event was at the Sharonville Convention Center which makes for a very intimate place to have a convention. The vendor areas had a rather interesting layout featuring several vendors local to Cincinnati and Ohio as well as other parts of the Midwest. The smaller vendor room had a few guests on one side with a few vendor booths but one of the interesting things I noticed here was the fact that this was an area in which you could get a tattoo at featuring several tattoo artists from the surrounding area.… Read More

A Letter from our Editor: September 8th, 2022

It’s been a few months since we have had any sort of new articles posted to our site here on our front page. However, I want everyone to know that our site is still very much alive. I want to personally thank everyone for your support from those that talk about The Domain and share it on your social media pages, those that listen to our podcast, The Next Level or watch/subscribe to our YouTube channel and/or Twitch.

Thank you.

Every single one of us have been going through our own personal conflicts and while I am not going into the details of what exactly those are, I want everyone to be assured that this site isn’t going anywhere and we are in the process of getting back to working hard on this site and provide more content to our audience. We have been working very hard on our podcast and especially our YouTube channel (YouTube.com/TheDomainGPCE) but we understand that we have not been giving the website itself the attention it deserves.

I will be attending Horrorhound Weekend this coming weekend in Cincinnatti and thanks to them for providing us press access to their event. We hope to cover even … Read More

Pros & Cons: PopCon Indy 2022 Review

Throughout the past weekend, I spent my time in Downtown Indianapolis at PopCon Indy. I cannot believe that PopCon is now in its 9th year as an event as it only seems like yesterday that the Kickstarter for the show was up and running but here we are. Over the last 9 years, PopCon has had its share of ups & downs with, in my opinion, the 2016 edition of PopCon being its best yet. For those that may not remember, PopCon 2016 had everything from a full-on wrestling show, the GFuel E-Sports arena, and also Kevin Smith with his daughter Harley there to attend the premiere of their movie, Yoga Hosers.

I feel that there has yet to be a PopCon that has come close to providing all that amount of entertainment in one weekend and sure, an argument can be made about the prior year with Markiplier coming to PopCon in only their second year as a convention which saw a crazy turnout that not even PopCon themselves expected. Yet here we are in 2022 and PopCon has been trying in some ways while failing in a few others to be as good as they once were.

The Mental Impact of Streaming on Twitch

I’ve been streaming on Twitch since before it was even called Twitch, back in the days of when it used to be Justin.tv and my time on the site has had its ups and downs. There are many things people don’t ever really tell you about Twitch and especially the mental impact it can have on those of us such as myself that stream on the platform. I want to say first and foremost that I am not a mental health professional so please, don’t take this as advice or the like.

Ever since the early days of when I would stream on Justin.tv back in 2009 when I started doing a late-night chill stream where I played music (back before anyone cared about DMCA) I noticed myself always being concerned with my viewer count, a number that tends to always stare you right in the face when streaming that shows you exactly how many viewers are currently watching your stream, and always giving myself some anxiety about how I can make my stream that much better.

Even now, I still do this from time-to-time, because it’s those very same numbers that drive me to want to do better and … Read More

Chip ‘N Dale: Rescue Rangers New Trailer is the Disney Nostalga Trip I Never Knew I Wanted

In all my years of being a Disney fan, one of my favorite Disney TV shows was Chip ‘N Dale’s Rescue Rangers alongside other great Disney TV shows such as Talespin, Darkwing Duck, and of course, Duck Tales. The last thing I ever expected was a return to this classic animated Disney show but I also did not anticipate after watching the trailer (which you can check out below) just how much of a nostalgia trip this new movie would be.

So as it seems, this movie takes place in a land similar to Toon Town from Who Framed Roger Rabbit where toons and humans live together in semi-harmony and the plot shows that some of these toons tend to randomly disappear. That is where you will immediately being to noticed a very large number of these animated characters such as Lemur from Beauty and the Beast. The movie shows Dale as more of a CGI character from the fact that he got surgery to do so, Dale decides to pay Chip a visit who still has his classic animated look. Various scenes in the trailer hint at the possibility of Peter Pan being our main antagonist but that will … Read More

Pros & Cons Tag Team Edition: Squared Circle Expo 2 Review

While I’ve had the pleasure of attending several conventions and expo’s over the years, some of my favorite have been those shows that cater to a specific audience such as the horror scene for instance and last year I was able to attend my very first wrestling expo, Squared Circle Expo and it left me wondering how exactly were owners Adolfo Dorta & Ed Gonzales going to top what they produced last year and I’m very pleased to say they did exactly that.

Squared Circle Expo 2 took place at the same venue as the first SCX which was the Wyndham Indianapolis West Hotel, a rather familiar venue to locals in the convention scene as it tends to host several other conventions from horror cons to local shows and a space that really feels right at home for such an event as SCX2 as the setup was pretty much the same this time around as it was last year with the same large vendor area with what seemed to me even more vendors this year than there was the previous year. I was very pleased with the amount of wrestling merch to purchase from action figures, to toy wrestling rings … Read More

Pros & Cons: LouisvilleCon 2022 Review

Louisville Kentucky isn’t home to many conventions these days and hopefully, that is changing as more conventions make their way into town. One such convention, LousivilleCon, made its way back into town this year after being there just six months prior and one that I hope becomes a semi-annual event. What sets LouisvlleCon apart from most conventions that I cover is that it is a one-day-only convention, which tends to break from what a majority of cons do in the scene whether it be a two-day, three-day, or for most larger scale conventions, a four-day event such as Gen Con.

What makes this convention work as a one-day-only event is that it isn’t like most cons I have been to where the celebrities are what shine, which don’t get me wrong, LouisvilleCon does try to provide some decent guests, but what shines here is the sheer amount of vendors and the quality of those vendors which is what I tend to look forward to the most. It’s easy for any con to bring in big-name guests, but the real appeal to myself and quite a lot of others is how many vendors people can spend their hard-earned money on. Sure, … Read More

The Blue Blur is Back: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Movie Review

Video game movies have always had a tendency of either being downright awful (here’s looking at you Uwe Boll) to being good yet insanely cheesy such as movies like the 1995 movie based on the video game hit, Mortal Kombat. Because of this, many gamers and moviegoers alike have come to brace themselves whenever a movie based on a video game is announced and then released hoping that this movie might be the one that ends up doing the source material some justice with many failing and some just missing the mark.

Until 2020 when Sega decided to bring the blue blur himself, Sonic the Hedgehog, to movie theaters nationwide, and it absolutely dominated as one of if not the best video game movie ever made. Now, Sonic is back and he has brought some very familiar friends along to take on a returning Jim Carey as Dr. Eggman after being isolated on the Mushroom Planet since the end of the first movie. We find Sonic making his home in the lush town of Green Hills just outside of Seattle where Sonic hopes to be the hero that he believes is his destiny.

While trying to maintain a normal life … Read More
