WWE SmackDown results from 03-17-2023

Tonight’s WWE Smack SmackDown on FOX opens LIVE from the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri as Michael Cole welcomes us. He’s joined at ringside by Wade Barrett. They hype tonight’s show.

We go right to the ring and out comes Cody Rhodes to a big pop as Samantha Irvin does the introductions.

Cody takes the mic and asks the crowd what they want to talk about –  WrestleMania? Cody talks about tempers and mistakes on The Road to WrestleMania 39. He says he has the utmost respect for our champion, Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Fans boo. Cody says Reigns is the greatest champion in sports, he looks forward to seeing Reigns in the ring on RAW, and then beating Reigns at WrestleMania. Fans pop and chant “Cody!” now.

Cody doesn’t want to talk about somebody, he wants to talk to somebody. Cody knows this person is back there watching. He calls Kevin Owens to the ring, please. Owens isn’t coming out. MATCH #1: ROH World Championship Proving Ground Match:
Claudio Castagnoli vs. Willie Mack
As a reminder, Proving Ground rules state that is the challenger either beats the champion, or is able to last ten minutes, he then gets a shot at the ROH World Championship. Mack gets the better of the exchanges early, sending Claudio to the floor as Mack humps the mat. Claudio back in the ring but Mack catches him with a running hurricanrana for two! Claudio reverses a headlock for a standing vertical suplex. Mack catches a charging Claudio with a huge dropkick to the face and a two count. Claudio blocks an exploder suplex with some elbows to the face in the corner. Claudio looks for a butterfly suplex but Mack drops to his knees to break the grip before delivering some hard forearms. Running clothesline by Claudio gets a two count. Claudio now gets the butterfly suplex and another two count. Huge Samoan drop by Mack and a kip up! Standing moonsault by Mack gets two! It’s Wednesday night and you know what that means!

Excalibur, Tony Schiavone and “The Human Suplex Machine” Taz greets the audiences at home as we head to the ring for AEW World Champion MJF’s Re-Bar Mitzvah Celebration!

MJF heading to the ring with four women by his side. He takes a shot at the Canadian fans by claiming Shawn Michaels was much better than Bret Hart, and then he claims he lost his “v card” at his first bar mitzvah. However, he’s having another one after defeating Bryan Danielson he is no longer a man, he is the iron man.

More people come down to the ring and the celebrations begin as he is put onto a chair, but that is interrupted immediately by ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry. However, before he can say a word, Sammy Guevara’s music hits and he makes his way down to the ring, and he is followed by the fourth pillar of AEW…Darby Allin. MJF tells them they’re ruining it, so he asks what they want and at the exact same time, they all say they want a AEW World Championship match.

The post-Roadblock edition of WWE NXT opens up on the USA Network with highlights from last Tuesday’s special episode. We’re now LIVE from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida as Vic Joseph welcomes us. He’s joined at ringside by WWE Hall of Famer Booker T.

We go right to the ring and out comes Johnny Gargano to a big pop as Alicia Taylor does the introductions.

Fans chant “Johnny Wrestling!” as the music stops and Gargano takes the mic. Gargano asks where he left off and they chant “welcome home!” now. Gargano asks fans to watch his back because of how Grayson Waller attacked him from behind last time he spoke in the ring. Gargano talks about finishing this story and how it felt like a little piece of him was missing when he returned to RAW, because Waller took closure from him.

Gargano hates to say this but he kind of respects it. Gargano waited to see what Waller did with it because the last guy was Tommaso Ciampa, and he became a great NXT Champion. Tonight’s WWE RAW opens LIVE on the USA Network from the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island as Kevin Patrick welcomes us. He’s joined at ringside by Corey Graves as the packed crowd cheers.

We go right to the ring and out comes WWE Hall of Famer Edge to a big pop and pyro as the announcers hype the show.

Edge thanks Providence and says that feels good, this is why he does this. He says everyone knows why he’s here… he calls Finn Balor out. The music hits and out comes The Judgment Day to the stage – Finn Balor, Rhea Ripley, Damian Priest, and Dominik Mysterio. Balor says for once he agrees with the fans and wants to hear what Edge has to say, so spit it out.

Edge says he didn’t come to talk, he came to end this. He goes on and insults Balor’s stablemates, and then accepts the WrestleMania 39 challenge Balor issued a few weeks back. It’s Friday night and you know what that means!

Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone and “The Ocho” Chris Jericho greets the audiences at home as Sammy Guevara and Action Andretti wait in the ring.

MATCH #1: One-On-One Match:
Sammy Guevara vs. Action Andretti
The bell rings and Andretti sends Guevara crashing into the mat. Guevara fires off several right hands before the pair spill to the outside and hit one another with chops. Andretti tosses Guevara back inside, but Guevara rolls back to the outside. Andretti delivers a tope suicida, then follows it up with a chop and tosses Guevara into the ring steps. The pair gets back inside, and Andretti delivers a dropkick and a split legged moonsault. He then hits a lariat and looks to go flying, but Guevara goes to catch him. Andretti catches him and executes a catapult, then clotheslines him to the outside and looks to go flying off the top. Guevara catches him with a kick.

Back from the break, the two men level one another with crossbodies. Guevara and Andretti go back and forth with forearms before Andretti gains the upper hands and hits a pair of forearms. He follows it up with … Read More

Tonight’s WWE SmackDown on FOX opens up with a look back at what happened with Sami Zayn and Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos on Monday’s RAW, where Jey Uso turned on Zayn.

We’re now LIVE from the back parking lot of the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Paul Heyman waits as a black SUV pulls up. Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos hop out. Jey Uso asks where The Tribal Chief is. Heyman just looks at Jey, then hugs him. Heyman says The Tribal Chief is really proud of Jey, and so is Heyman. Jey tells Heyman to let The Tribal Chief know he’s here, whenever he finds out where he is. Heyman walks off. Kayla Braxton walks up and asks Jey why he turned on Sami Zayn. Jey says everything he needs to say will be said in the middle of the ring tonight. Jimmy Uso says Kayla needs to be asking Cody Rhodes why he put his nose in Bloodline business. The Usos walk off and we go to the standard SmackDown intro video.

MATCH #1: ROH World Television Championship Match:
Samoa Joe © vs. Tony Deppen
Samoa Joe took control early on, peppering Tony Deppen with heavy strikes that sent him to the mat. Deppen came back with chops of his own before getting flattened by a Joe back elbow for a near fall. Joe clobbered on Deppen in the corner before Deppen fought his way out with more strikes. Joe sends Deppen into the corner and dropped him with a body block and enziguri.

Joe brought Deppen to the top rope, but Deppen fought him off and hit a missile dropkick. Deppen came over the ropes and hit a stunner for a near fall. There was a mix up in the corner that ended with a Deppen near fall for two. Joe hit the Uranage Slam out of the corner, but Deppen reversed the rear naked choke with a roll up for a two count. Joe sent Deppen into the corner and took him down with the Muscle Buster for the win.

It’s Wednesday night and you know what that means!

Excalibur, Tony Schiavone and “The Human Suplex Machine” Taz greets the audiences at home as we head to the ring for the All-Atlantic Championship.

MATCH #1: AEW All-Atlantic Championship Match:
Orange Cassidy © vs. Jay Lethal
Both men head into this one on their own as nobody else is allowed at ringside. Jay Lethal charges in to try and attack Orange Cassidy straight away, but it leads to the champion taking control straight away with some arm drags. The challenger aims for Lethal Injection after getting Cassidy to chase him around but that is countered, and when he tries it again Cassidy stops it once more by kicking Lethal as he attempts the move.

Cassidy launches himself outside the ring but gets caught, however, he is able to counter that by sending Lethal into the ring post. Lethal wastes no time responding to that though by sending Cassidy into the steel stairs as he follows it with a dragon screw into the ropes. He hangs Cassidy onto the top rope and follows with a running sweep attack on the injured leg once again.

The 2023 WWE NXT Roadblock special opens up on the USA Network with Tiffany Stratton taking a seat backstage. She says she’s ready, then welcomes us to Tiffany’s Epiphany’s – The Roadblock Edition. Stratton can’t believe we’re 25 days way from Stand & Deliver but several Superstars have roadblocks on their journey there. Stratton hypes up tonight’s matches. She confirms the NXT Women’s Championship will be the main event. She goes on and says it’s not about the journey, it’s about the destination.
