CONTINUE?: Impressions on “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off”

The following article contains spoilers for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.

Scott Pilgrim doesn’t need a sequel!”

“We want a Scott Pilgrim animated series! Why is it anime?

“Oh goodness, why Netflix?!

All perfectly good responses to when a press release revealed that an adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim would be getting a new, anime/animated series on our streaming screens this year. Frankly, our guts were telling us what road we were going down but did we listen? No. We were blinded by flashy, Japanese-inspired animated trailers and Mortal Kombat references to know what “takes off” really meant. But let me give my credit as a certified Scottaholic before getting into the anime.

Like any good fan, I did start with the graphic novels, absolutely loving the series by the time “Scott Pilgrim Gets it Together,” the fourth volume in Scott’s story. The gaming humour mixed with the action/fantasy was something I didn’t want to put down and following Ramona’s seven evil exes was something I did want to see the conclusion to after everything the couple had gone through. Back when bookstores were still a thing, I had “Scott Pilgrim’s Finest … Read More

Limited Run Games Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game K.O. Edition – What’s In It?

Hi all – this time, I’m bringing you something different from my Andrew’s Angles articles – in this case, it’s a breakdown of the K.O Edition of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World from Limited Run Games (LRG)!

As ashamed as I am to say it, while I did have the game back on Xbox 360, I did not play that much of it, and then, sadly Ubisoft pulled the release from digital stores (the only way that the game could be obtained originally). However, my fiancé (who has helpfully taken the pictures for this article – thank you, Dan!) is a massive fan of Scott Pilgrim – the books, the movie, the game, anything you can think of. So, when LRG announced that they would be releasing the game, it did not take much convincing for the order to be placed for the K.O. Edition – one of the most jam-packed versions available.

The collection itself comes in a large musician case and a slip cover, both adorned with the Sex Bob-Omb logo.

For the musicians out there, this edition also comes with not just one pair of well-made drumsticks, but 3 guitar picks, also unmistakeably part of the Scott … Read More

Scott Pilgrim vs Gen Z : A look at why this story gets so much hate these days.

Once upon a time in a land called Canada, there lived a writer named Brian Lee O’Malley. He wrote a fantastic 6 part series centered around 23-year-old Scott Pilgrim: Rating: Awesome. A movie was made, but it’s more of A-Cliff’s Notes, as movie adaptations usually are. Edgar Wright did his thang here, but as to be expected I highly recommend reading this 6 part opus to get the whole story. There is so much character growth across this series that not a single character is the same person as they are at the beginning, that this should be considered one of the great “coming of age stories”… so why has it been getting so much hate lately?

Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life (Volume 1) was released almost 20 years ago in 2004. It was a very unknown black and white manga-esque volume that was printed and published by Oni-press. Following that, a new volume was released almost yearly, I’m looking at you 2008. To Reminisce one more time, I remember the movie coming out one week before the last volume, Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour, and I was hesitant to go see the film on opening weekend, but at the time … Read More
