AEW: Battle of the Belts V results from 01-06-2023

Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone and “The Ocho” Chris Jericho greets the audiences at home as we go to the first match of the night.

MATCH #1: No Holds Barred Match for the AEW World Tag Team Championships:
Anthony Bowens and Max Caster © vs. Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal

Max Caster wastes no time in taking a diss to Vince McMahon, claiming Jeff Jarrett is worse than him as he fires up the crowd for the opening match tonight.

However, the challengers jump the champions immediately with Jeff Jarrett using a chair against Max Caster while Jay Lethal puts Anthony Bowens in the Figure Four Leglock on top of the apron, and the two men then roll down the ramp before breaking it up. Jarrett and Bowens then start brawling inside the ring with Bowens hitting a flipping neck breaker which gets a near fall.

Lethal manages to tag in but he gets beat down as well and Caster comes in as the champions hit a double suplex. Caster avoids offense from Lethal and slides out of the ring, hitting Satnam Singh in the process as Bowens then tags back in and he clotheslines Jarrett on the apron before dropping Lethal. However, as they look for Scissor Me Timbers, Jarrett sends Bowens to the floor and Lethal then dives out to attack him as they strut in the ring.

Jarrett catches Bowens with a kick as Lethal then grabs him into a swinging neckbreaker as the challengers maintain control. Bowens hits a huge clothesline though and its double tags as Caster then drops Jarrett with a chop and a dropkick before slamming the Hall of Famer to the mat. Caster sets in the Ankle Lock and sits down on it, clearly giving a nod to Kurt Angle, and Lethal then takes out the official with an Elbow Drop, but Billy Gunn wipes him out with a clothesline.

Singh then grabs Caster and sends him into the steel steps, but Bowens drops Jarrett in the ring only for no official to be in the ring at the time. One runs down, but it ends up being too later. Gunn then pulls Lethal off the ring apron, but he then gets nailed with a low blow from Jarrett, who has a guitar in his hand. Bowens gets the boom box and Sonjay Dutt trips him, but Gunn takes the guitar.

He teases hitting Jarrett, but he decides to nail Singh in the head, but he doesn’t go down. The Acclaimed take out the champions, but Singh then nails a double Chokeslam to the champions, and the AEW official gets hit by one as well. He gives Dutt the referee t-shirt as the Lethal Injection is hit! Dutt almost counts three, but Aubrey Edwards pulls him out of the ring, she snaps his pencil and pushes him to the floor. This leads to the Arrival and then the Mic Drop as the champions retain the gold!

Winners: Anthony Bowens and Max Caster

BACKSTAGE: The next chapter in the Book of Hobbs is discussed as Will Hobbs claims everything bad that has happened to him is in that book, and whatever has happened to him will happen to everyone else.

BACKSTAGE: Ortiz and Eddie Kingston are shown reacting to the latest House of Black riddle, and Ortiz says since he never got mentioned perhaps, he should question him. Kingston says next Friday they will beat their asses and he can question him then.

MATCH #2: TBS Championship Match:
Jade Cargill © vs. Skye Blue
Jade Cargill tries to talk trash to Skye Blue before the match, but she opts to fight her and starts hitting a few forearm strikes. The match begins and Blue goes for the crossbody but gets caught, however, the challenger reverses and goes through a series of pinfall attempts which see her come close to capturing the gold out of nowhere. The champion heads outside to compose herself, and it works as she nails a forearm into her opponent, sending her to the floor.

Cargill follows it with a big boot to the ribs outside the ring, and she then Chokeslams her on the ramp as well. Red Velvet then appears on the ramp and starts staring down Cargill as Blue crawls toward the ring and she beats the 10 count. Cargill then pushes her foot into the neck of Blue and she continues that way by doing it while her opponent is on the second rope.

Cargill connects with a suplex, but that’s not enough to win her the match, so she slams her down again. Blue shows some signs of life though, and she connects with a running knee and then a couple of big kicks to the face. However, as she gets things going Cargill drops her with a huge boot to the face, and that leads to Velvet coming down to ringside and she drops Leila Grey which leads to Blue almost stealing it with a roll-up. She follows that with a superkick and then Code Blue, but yet again Cargill scrambles to kick out.

She tries to charge into the corner and catches Cargill several times, but then as she jumps from the top rope Cargill catches Blue, flips her into the air to her shoulders, then drops her down to hit Jaded with a very impressive reversal.

Winner: Jade Cargill

BACKSTAGE: Stokely Hathaway says “The Firm” are a force to be reckoned with, and they will put their opponents in the dirt for their upcoming match.

MAIN EVENT: AEW All-Atlantic Championship Match:
Orange Cassidy © vs. Kip Sabian

Interestingly Orange Cassidy comes down to the ring with only Danhausen, as neither of his fellow Best Friends are here for this one. When the bell rings the champion looks for the Orange Punch straight away but misses and Kip Sabian plants him to the mat, only for Cassidy to respond well with a shoulder tackle of his own as the two then go back and forth with an urgent set of reversals. Cassidy finally gets his hands on the challenger though and he begins unloading punches which leads to Sabian taking a break at ringside.

The Bunny then skips down and joins Penelope Ford, and they block him off, but as they stand aside Sabian attacks the champion. Sabian nails a boot to the face and then springboards out of the ring to wipe out the champion once again as the ladies then hug him to mock the Best Friends pose. However, as he turns around Danhausen is there to curse him, but Sabian bites his finger.

Cassidy dives out of the ring to attack Sabian and then he hits the Stundog Millionaire inside the ring. However, as he tries to dive out of the ring Sabian catches him, places his legs onto the ring apron, and connects with a neck breaker to the floor. Sabian continues the attack with an elbow strike as he then Irish whips him back and forth to the turnbuckles in an aggressive manner, with Sabian then launching himself into the champion as he is slumped on the bottom turnbuckle.

The two then scale to the top turnbuckle, but it is Cassidy who comes out on top with a superplex, but as he looks to set up the Orange Punch, but The Bunny grabs his foot, only to be caught and ejected. However, the break works out well as Sabian avoids things and the two men then clonk heads. Meanwhile, Butcher and The Blade appear and Danhausen begins trying to fight them only to be taken out.

They then pull out two chairs and sit down to watch the match while Cassidy and Sabian go back and forth with elbow strikes until Sabian opts to mock the champion with a few slow chops and kicks, but Cassidy explodes back with hard-hitting strikes to show a new side of himself, but Sabian then nails a headbutt and a rising knee strike which is followed by another big knee shot. Sabian plants Cassidy down to the mat once more, yet Cassidy still kicks out.

The champion is then sent out of the ring as Butcher and The Blade try to attack him, but Best Friends sprint down and make the save. However, back inside the ring, it is Sabian who hits the Corkscrew Neck Breaker, which gets another near fall. He then hits the champion with the Orange Punch, but that just fires up the champion, and he plants Sabian with a DDT and a PK. That’s followed by Beach Break, yet Sabian kicks out!

Cassidy opts to stomp away on Sabian in the corner and Cassidy then throws the official to the floor due to his rage. He apologizes but Sabian then goes for the roll-up, only for Cassidy to kick out and then hit two Orange Punches.

Winner: Orange Cassidy
